Credit for the first microscope is usually given to Hans and Zacharias Jansen, a father and son who operated a Dutch lens grinding business, around 1595. Their first microscopes were more of a novelty than a scientific tool since maximum magnification was only around 9X and the images were somewhat blurry. |
